Increase in Disease Risks

It was stated that heavy rains could increase the risk of cholera and also trigger diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and chikungunya by creating favorable conditions for the development of disease-carrying mosquitoes.

Regions at Risk

It was expressed that the impact of this threat would be particularly severe in regions with weak health systems, experiencing food insecurity, or facing humanitarian crises.

Call for International Precaution and Timeline

While the World Health Organization called on countries to take early precautions to limit the impact on public health, the World Meteorological Organization predicts that the effects could last until 2027.
