Emergency Humanitarian Aid Appeal After Himalayan Landslide
According to Red Cross data, more than ninety thousand people have been affected by the Himalayan landslide, and secondary floods are causing concern.
Following the major landslide in the Himalayan region, it was announced that more than ninety thousand people were directly affected and are in need of urgent humanitarian aid.
Red Cross and Relief Efforts
Officials from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reported that tens of thousands of people are in need of aid in the region.
It was stated that trucks carrying relief supplies got stuck and rescue operations were temporarily disrupted because a lake formed after the landslide overflowed its banks.
Potential Secondary Hazards
Authorities warned that the disaster is not yet completely over and that cascading hazards could occur.
Relief workers emphasized that concerns persist due to potential secondary floods and overflows that may occur in the region.
Damage to Healthcare Services
The World Health Organization announced that six healthcare facilities were damaged due to the disaster and eight healthcare workers are missing.
It was stated that infrastructure destruction and crowded shelters could increase the risk of infectious diseases such as diarrhea and respiratory illnesses.
