Drone Attack in Leipzig
Germany blamed Russia for the failed drone attack that took place at Leipzig Airport last month. While a drone carrying explosives was neutralized at the airport, a second drone is believed to have collided with another cargo plane.
EU and NATO Response
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the Leipzig incident is a new escalation directly attributed to Russia. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that the entire alliance stands in full solidarity with Germany.
Germany's Decisions
The German government announced that police investigations and intelligence findings prove that Russia is behind the events. The Berlin administration decided to close the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural institution.
Stance of Russia and Other Countries
While Russia rejected the German accusations, the foreign ministry announced that a retaliatory response would be given. Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that a fire at a combat drone factory was intentional sabotage.
