Following the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar is preparing to host the FIBA 2027 World Cup, which will be held in an Arab country for the first time in history. The organization will be played between August 27 and September 12, 2027, with 32 national teams competing, including the host Qatar.
Four Different Venues Determined
The four arenas located in the capital Doha that will host the major organization have been officially determined. The matches will be played at Lusail Arena, Al Attiyah Arena, Duhail Arena, and Al Janoub Arena.
Features and Capacities of the Arenas
Lusail Arena will host the final stages with a seating capacity of 15,227. Al Attiyah Arena offers a spectator capacity of 8,600, while group stage matches will be played at the 5,500-capacity Duhail Arena.
Historical Transformation: Al Janoub Arena
Al Janoub Arena, which is normally a football stadium with a capacity of 44,325, will have its capacity reduced to 8,200 for the tournament. This venue will hold the distinction of being the first football stadium in FIBA World Cup history to host a basketball match.

Competing in the FIBA 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers, the Turkey Men's National Basketball Team defeated Iceland 110-73 away in the 2nd Round Group J. With this result, the national team became the first side to earn qualification from the qualifiers and will make its 6th appearance in the World Cup.
