French MP files criminal complaint against former Israeli commando
Legal proceedings have been initiated in France against Elitzur Gitler, a former Israeli commando attending a sports event, over allegations of war crimes committed during operations in Gaza.
A French member of parliament has filed a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor's office following the presence in France of Elitzur Gitler, a former Israeli commando alleged to have served in military operations in Gaza. The individual is accused of involvement in war crimes, genocide, and acts of torture.
Grounds for the criminal complaint
In a statement made via social media, the MP noted that the military unit commanded by the suspect was involved in attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza, such as hospitals, schools, and mosques. It was emphasized that these actions could constitute war crimes and genocide under international law.
Investigation by non-governmental organizations
The Brussels-based Hind Rajab Foundation and the France-based Urgence Palestine association announced that they have documented Elitzur Gitler's participation in operations targeting civilians in Gaza between November 2023 and April 2024.
Foundation and association officials demanded the immediate initiation of a preliminary investigation into Gitler and requested that necessary legal measures be taken to prevent the suspect from returning to Israel.
Reaction to participation in sports event
It was determined that Elitzur Gitler was in France to participate in the World Roundnet Championship held in the city of Champigny-sur-Marne between September 2 and 6.
Natacha Bracq, Legal Director of the Hind Rajab Foundation, stated that it is unacceptable for an individual at the center of genocide allegations to move freely in France under the guise of sports events.
