Georgia Tech's undergraduate engineering program rose to second place nationwide in the U.S. News & World Report 2027 list, achieving the highest rank in its history.
In the 2027 Best Colleges rankings published by U.S. News & World Report, Georgia Tech's undergraduate engineering program climbed to second place nationally and shared the title of top public program.
Historic Rise and Overall Ranking
The Georgia Tech College of Engineering achieved the highest position in its history in U.S. News & World Report's latest assessment. Rising one spot for the second consecutive year in the annual list, the school is tied with Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley.
Position Among Public Universities
According to the updated ranking results, Georgia Tech and Berkeley share the title of having the best public engineering program in the country. In the overall evaluation, Georgia Tech climbed three spots to rank 29th nationwide.
Regional and Discipline-Based Successes
All individual disciplines within the college placed in the top five among their peers in their respective fields. The School of Industrial and Systems Engineering maintained its top spot for the 26th consecutive year.
Departments Sharing the Top Spot
The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering also claimed the number one spot this year. Thus, for the first time, both the civil and environmental engineering undergraduate programs reached number one in the same year.
Fields Ranking in Second Place
Five other programs—aerospace, biomedical, chemical, materials, and mechanical engineering—were ranked second among their peers. All of these programs hold the position of being the best public engineering program in their respective fields.
Ranking Criteria and Methodology
U.S. News uses peer assessment surveys completed by deans and senior faculty members at other universities to rank engineering programs and individual disciplines. The university also ranks sixth among public universities in the overall rankings.
