The Incident at Leipzig Airport
German authorities reported that on August 4, an explosives-laden drone was found in a secure area of Leipzig/Halle Airport between two Ukrainian cargo planes. It was noted that the drone failed to detonate due to a faulty fuse.
Germany and EU's Response
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that the federal government has concluded that Russia is responsible for the hybrid attack in Leipzig. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the attack could have caused massive damage.
Russia's Statement
The Russian Foreign Ministry described the allegations put forward by the Berlin administration as entirely fabricated and categorically rejected claims. Following the developments, Germany's ambassador in Moscow was summoned to the foreign ministry.
International Repercussions and Security Concerns
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that Russia is becoming increasingly reckless, while Czech President Petr Pavel stated that Russia is using indirect actions and provocations instead of direct military action.
