According to data released by the World Steel Association, global crude steel production in the eighth month of the year decreased compared to the same period of last year, recorded at 144.2 million tons.
Changes in Major Producers
During this period, production in China, the world's largest steel producer, decreased by 3.7 percent to 74.6 million tons. India, on the other hand, increased its production by 4.6 percent to 14.8 million tons.
Situation of Other Countries
In the US, estimated production rose by 3 percent to 7.3 million tons, while in Japan it increased by 0.4 percent to 6.7 million tons. Russia's production fell by 0.3 percent to 5.5 million tons, whereas South Korea increased its production by 2.6 percent to 5.4 million tons.
Turkey and Other Countries
Turkey realized a crude steel production of 3.4 million tons in August with a limited decrease of 0.4 percent compared to the same month of last year. Germany's production reached 2.6 million tons with a 1.7 percent increase, while Brazil's production declined by 6.2 percent to 2.7 million tons.
Eight-Month Total Data
Global crude steel production in the January-August period decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the same period of last year, amounting to 1 billion 225.2 million tons.
Turkey's Eight-Month Performance
Turkey increased its crude steel production by 6.8 percent in the January-August period compared to the same period of last year, raising it to 26.6 million tons and managing to maintain its strong growth trend.
