Google is launching Project Suncatcher, which aims to overcome land, cooling, and electricity constraints in artificial intelligence infrastructure, and in this context, is preparing to launch its first prototype satellite equipped with Trillium TPU hardware into low Earth orbit via a SpaceX rocket.

The Purpose of Project Suncatcher

Tech giant Google has announced Project Suncatcher to initiate a long-term transformation in its artificial intelligence infrastructure and has taken action to overcome terrestrial constraints.

Hardware Testing in the Space Environment

Within the scope of the initiative, the first prototype satellite equipped with Trillium Tensor Processing Units will be sent to low Earth orbit via SpaceX's Transporter mission, and operational tests will be carried out.

Examination of Harsh Conditions and Durability

While examining the durability of the chips against high vibration, acceleration, and intense radiation exposure, special heat pipes and radiator designs to prevent overheating in a vacuum environment will be tested.

Future Goals and Laser Communication

Planning satellite constellations that run on continuous solar energy and aim for up to eight times higher production, the company aims to commission high-speed laser communication technology with two new satellites to be launched in 2027.
