Muammer Karaca Theatre Reopens After a 14-Year Hiatus

Muammer Karaca Theatre, one of Istanbul's historically significant stages, reopened its doors after a 14-year hiatus upon the completion of restoration and repurposing works carried out by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Historic Stage Reunites with Art Lovers

Muammer Karaca Theatre, which holds an important place in Istanbul's theatrical memory, reopened its doors with a special invitation following a 14-year hiatus. In its new era, the historic venue will continue to host independent theatres and various performing arts.

Well-Attended Opening Ceremony Held

The reopening ceremony was attended by IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan and IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, alongside numerous prominent figures from the art world. Scenes from classic productions of Turkish theatre were also reenacted within the scope of the ceremony.

Restoration and Repurposing Works

Initiated in 2019 by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality at the building that had been closed since 2012, the works aimed to preserve the structure's historical character while responding to today's cultural and artistic needs. Carried out through IMM Culture and IMM Heritage, the restoration created a 300-seat theatre hall and multi-purpose areas.

Mengü Ertel Exhibition Opened to Visitors

Presented to art lovers simultaneously with the theatre's opening, the special exhibition focusing on the theatre world of Mengü Ertel can be visited free of charge within the designated dates.
