Saudi Arabia's Request
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated calls he had made for weeks to halt the Houthi advance and asked Trump to intervene. Although Trump had initially resisted joining Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen, he gave instructions to the Pentagon following this call.
Advance in the Strategic Region
The rapid advance of the Iran-backed group this month has carried the conflicts in the Middle East to a new front. After taking control of a large portion of the Red Sea coast, the Houthis are advancing toward areas near the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
Humanitarian Dimension and Displacements
According to United Nations data, at least 125,000 people have been displaced due to the clashes in Yemen since early September. The city of Taiz hosted the largest displaced population.

Yemeni President Rashad al-Alimi held a phone call with Trump on Sunday, requesting support for his UN-recognized government. Sources reported that Trump did not make a direct military support commitment during this call.
