India-Based Essar Group to Build Massive Steel Plant in Iowa
As part of an $18 billion mega-investment move in the US, the country's largest steel plant is planned to be established in Iowa.
India-based industrial conglomerate Essar Group has decided to make a massive investment totaling $18 billion across the United States. Within this scope, a giant steel plant worth $15 billion will be constructed in Iowa through its US subsidiary, Mesabi Metallics.
Announcement at the White House
US President Donald Trump publicly announced the project to be implemented in Iowa during an event held in the Oval Office, with the participation of members of the Ruia family, who own the company.
Production and Supply Chain
The plant, to be developed by Essar's US subsidiary Mesabi Metallics, will be part of an integrated steel supply chain with iron ore sourced from operations in Minnesota.
Historical Scale and Capacity
President Trump stated that this investment will be the largest steel plant in American history, noting that the project will become one of the country's biggest facilities.
Expected to start production in 2030 when fully completed, the plant is anticipated to produce 10 million tons of steel annually.
