Making statements after the meeting, Iranian President Pezeshkian stated that they established a constructive dialogue with the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince for the first time following the events and war in the Persian Gulf. He conveyed that the two leaders agreed to leave the past behind and build the future together.
Regional Issues and Stability Efforts
According to a statement released by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the two leaders discussed regional and international issues, reducing tensions, stability, and efforts to support peace and development in the region. It was also reported that the parties signed a joint declaration calling for restraint in the war in West Asia.
Background Political and Economic Tensions
Following the US-Israeli attacks in West Asia in February, Iran had targeted US allies in the region, and the UAE was most affected by this situation. As a result of these developments, the UAE announced in August that it had suspended trade and financial transactions with Iran.
Trump's Statement on the Meeting
US President Donald Trump, when asked about the meeting planned by Iran and Gulf states in Oman to discuss the Strait of Hormuz, stated that this matter did not concern him and that the decision belonged entirely to the parties involved.
