Iranian Foreign Minister Responds to US Diplomat Claims
Denying claims that Iranian diplomats were expelled from the UN General Assembly, Tehran stated that the US statements reflect desperation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi denied US claims that Iranian diplomats were expelled from the country during the United Nations General Assembly, announcing that the delegation departed in accordance with the planned schedule.
Planned Departure
In a statement on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that all Iranian diplomats participating in the United Nations General Assembly in New York left the country as planned, with the exception of one individual who left earlier.
Statements from the US Side
Earlier in the day, a US official told the press that the State Department had forced Iran's UNGA delegation out of the country a few days after they were asked to leave.
Reaction from Tehran
Responding to the allegations on social media, Araghchi stated that this declaration reeked of desperation and defeat, and was also inconsistent with the obligations of the UN host country.
Diplomatic Tension
The US official claimed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio was resolute, alleging that two Iranian diplomats had continued to stay in New York despite the conclusion of the UNGA and were expelled from the country.
