Kidnapped British Woman Rescued in Police Operation in Malawi

Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old British auditor who was kidnapped in front of her home in Malawi, has been rescued alive following a police rescue operation and ensuing shootout.

Operation Details and Shootout

Malawi police conducted an operation to rescue 47-year-old Nusrat Osman, who was abducted in front of her home in Blantyre on September 11. In the shootout between security forces and armed suspects, four suspects were shot, taken to the hospital, and died of their injuries.

Injured Police Official

During the rescue operation, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mlowoka Noel Kayira was also injured by gunfire. Authorities announced that Kayira, who is receiving treatment in the hospital, is in stable condition and is not in life-threatening danger.

Family's Reaction and Gratitude

Osman's brother, Shobi Jiwa, expressed his satisfaction with his sister being rescued safe and sound and thanked the Malawi police. The family described the injured deputy commissioner of police as a hero in particular.

It is known that such kidnapping incidents are rare in the southern African country of Malawi. Although crimes such as theft and robbery have increased in recent years due to economic difficulties, kidnapping cases targeting foreign nationals are not widespread.
