Kremlin's Ruling Party Wins Russian Parliamentary Elections
Following a three-day voting process from which opposition candidates were excluded, the ruling United Russia party managed to maintain its majority in parliament.
According to an announcement by election officials in Russia on Monday, the Kremlin's main party maintained its parliamentary majority and solidified its leadership following a three-day voting process from which the majority of opposition candidates were excluded.
Election Results and Seat Distribution
The Central Election Commission announced that preliminary results show United Russia will secure 355 out of the 450 seats in the State Duma, the lower house of parliament.
Vote Shares and Commission Statements
Commission Chair Ella Pamfilova stated that, based on data from over 95 percent of the polling stations, United Russia received nearly 58 percent of the vote for the 225 seats allocated to political parties.
Results also reflected that United Russia candidates were leading in 208 constituencies in the race for the other 225 seats chosen to represent individual electoral districts.
Political Background and Security Situation
This vote marks the first parliamentary election held since Putin launched his full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The elections included participation by residents in four regions annexed by Moscow, and the process took place against the backdrop of a major overnight drone attack launched by Ukraine.
