Lymphoma Incidence Rate in Turkey Exceeds World Average
Experts state that lymphoma cases in Turkey are running above global rates, and this situation has become clear with data on the distribution of the disease.
Internal Medicine and Hematology Specialist Prof. Dr. Kadri Yamaç announced that the frequency of lymphoma types in Turkey is above the world average.
Lymphoma Types and Rates
Stating that there are two main types of lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Prof. Dr. Kadri Yamaç drew attention to current data.
According to GLOBOCAN 2022 estimates, while the frequency of Hodgkin lymphoma is approximately 1 per 100,000 people globally, it was recorded as 1.8 in Turkey.
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
The frequency of non-Hodgkin lymphoma in Turkey was detected in approximately 6.8 out of every 100,000 people.
While the global average remains around the 5.4 level, the rates in Turkey run approximately 25 percent higher than the world average.
Distribution by Gender
It is clearly demonstrated through official records and statistics that lymphomas are generally seen more frequently in men than in women.
According to the 2020 records of the Ministry of Health of Turkey, out of a total of 7,039 lymphoma cases, 4,129 consisted of men and 2,910 of women.
