Difficult Educational Conditions in Sudan
In war-shattered Sudan, it was reported that 120 students were taught in a classroom lacking electricity and water at a temperature of 44 degrees Celsius.
Maysa Jalbout emphasized that despite the difficult conditions, the students have a great desire for new schools to be built.
Dimensions of the Global Education Crisis
UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown stated that 273 million children are unable to attend school.
Brown expressed that 270 million children fail to acquire basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills despite reaching the age of 11.
International Financing Move
The Global Partnership for Education has mobilized $3.5 billion in resources to support more than 90 low-income countries.
It was announced that $2.1 billion of this fund consists of pledges and $1.4 billion of co-financing.
Urgent Regional Investments
Under the Education Cannot Wait fund, an emergency investment of $3 million was announced for Gaza and the West Bank.
Resources of $1 million were allocated for flood-affected children in Nepal, and $22 million for children in Sudan.
