Orchid saplings and cuttings produced using the tissue culture method at a facility in Sakarya's Hendek district are being exported to the world, primarily to the Netherlands, the center of floriculture, contributing to the country's economy.
Production in Laboratory Environment
At the facility operating in a 3,000-square-meter indoor area in Hendek, orchid saplings that were previously imported have started to be produced using the tissue culture method.
Women's Employment Stands Out
At the facility, which produces approximately 67 different varieties of orchids, delicate laboratory procedures are carried out by female employees, who make up 97 percent of the nearly 100 personnel.
To the World via the Netherlands
The produced orchid saplings and cuttings are exported to the Netherlands, the global center of the floriculture sector, and distributed from there to the entire world.
Annual Shipment of Millions of Saplings
Şüheda Türk, the Production Manager of the facility, stated that they are able to send nearly 13 million orchids annually to the Netherlands and that production is carried out in a sterile laboratory environment using the tissue culture method.
High Capacity and Import Substitution
Mustafa Çöpoğlu, Secretary General of the Eastern Marmara Development Agency, emphasized that the facility can have a capacity to grow 38 million saplings annually, bringing together elements of export, women's employment, and import substitution here.
