Local and international media outlets reported that a passenger boat carrying about 270 people took on water and capsized off the coast of North Cyprus.
According to information provided by the Cyprus newspaper, the vessel—which some reports identified as a catamaran—began taking on water about four miles off the coast.
Search, Rescue, and Response
Following the maritime accident, comprehensive search and rescue operations were swiftly launched in the area, and numerous ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
Kyrenia Mayor Murat Senkul stated in a broadcast on CNN Turk that 159 out of the 258 passengers on board had been reached.
