Peru's city of Callao has announced the unveiling of the world's largest pontiff statue on the occasion of Pope Leo XIV's visit to South America in November.
Preparations for the Pope Statue in Callao
Callao, a northern suburb of Lima, Peru, is undertaking a striking project ahead of Pope Leo XIV's visit in November. The world's tallest statue of a pope is being erected in a coastal park overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Constructed from steel and marble and standing approximately 46 feet tall, the statue depicts the pope with open arms and is expected to be completed before the visit.
Municipality and Private Sector Cooperation
Callao Mayor César Pérez stated that the park area was granted by the local government. The financing and construction of the statue were undertaken by a private company.
South America Visit Schedule
Pope Leo's comprehensive 11-day South America journey includes Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. The visit will begin in Uruguay on November 6th.
After Uruguay, the pope will proceed to Argentina, arriving in Peru on November 11th to visit various cities over the course of five days.
