At a conference in the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV praised the new martyrs, stating that they are shining stars against selfish mentalities and oppression.
Pope Leo XIV met with participants of the conference titled "21st Century: A New Era of Martyrs?" held in the Vatican, and stated that the new witnesses who lost their lives for the sake of faith help the church reflect Christ's light.

The event, organized by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints and the Commission for New Martyrs – Witnesses of the Faith, took place at the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum in Rome.
The Commission's Work
Established in 2023 by Pope Francis, the commission collects testimonies of those who lost their lives for Christ, independently of the official canonization process.
Heroism and Justice
Pope Leo emphasized that even today, when a culture of power and weapons prevails, many people are targeted for opposing injustices in the name of the Gospel.
