United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated in his final press conference ahead of the 81st UN General Assembly that the international community owes an apology to the victims in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Sudan.

Guterres expressed that the international community has repeatedly remained indifferent to human suffering in these regions. He stated that this situation has reached a dimension that is absolutely unacceptable and intolerable for him.
Conflicts in the Middle East and Africa
It was pointed out that as new crises emerge, attention is diverted from the core issues. It was clearly stated that lasting peace cannot be achieved in the Middle East without resolving the Palestinian-Israeli crisis, nor in the Horn of Africa without resolving the Sudan crisis.
End of Term of Office
This press conference held on Wednesday marks the final event of Guterres's term in office. The leader's second term will end on December 31, and his successor will take over on January 1, 2027.
Israeli Policies and the Two-State Solution
Touching upon the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, the statement conveyed that Israel does not accept the implementation of the existing peace plan. It was emphasized that covert annexation processes carried out alongside settler violence in the West Bank must be halted immediately.
