Samba, a capybara who escaped from Marwell Zoo in March along with her sister Tango, continues to evade capture in the wetlands of the Hampshire countryside for six months despite intensive search efforts.

Background of the Escape and Moment of Flight

Born at Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park in Suffolk, Tango and Samba were brought to Marwell Zoo on Monday, March 16. Placed in a quarantine area, the two siblings disappeared the following afternoon.

Capture of Tango and Escape of Samba

Authorities believe the animals squeezed out through a very small gap in the gate. While Tango was captured shortly after, Samba fled toward the marshy areas, turning into a social media figure that garnered international attention.

Search Efforts and Technological Support

In addition to visitors, locals, and individuals like drone operator Glenn Moores, thermal cameras are also aiding the search efforts. Trail camera footage obtained in August proved that Samba is in good health.

Future Plans and Strategy for Returning Home

Zoo officials plan to lure Samba back to her territory using food and scented bedding in order to safely bring her back to her home.
