South Korea-based engineering and construction firm Samsung C&T has signed a binding preliminary agreement to make a strategic investment of up to $100 million in Kairos Power.

Samsung C&T has agreed to provide up to $100 million in financing through direct investment and in-kind engineering services, subject to regulatory approvals.

This strategic move aims to strengthen the financial readiness and ensure the successful delivery of the Hermes 2 demonstration plant to be built in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Engineering and Construction Cooperation

The company has joined Kairos Power's integrated engineering, procurement, and construction team to provide expertise in nuclear reactor technology.

The collaboration initially focuses on power generation systems and balance-of-plant scope to enhance technical and execution readiness.

Global Markets and Objectives

The two companies have agreed to jointly identify various business opportunities in global nuclear energy markets, including South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Europe.

This agreement aims to establish an early framework for reliable project execution following a previously signed memorandum of understanding.

Project Timeline and Permits

Kairos Power received construction permits for the Hermes 2 facility from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission in December 2024 and broke ground in April 2026.
