Explosions occurred in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh and at the international airport as the Houthis announced they carried out an attack with ballistic missiles, bringing air traffic to a standstill.

Explosions Heard in the Capital

A number of tremors and explosion sounds were heard on Thursday in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh, including a major blast at the international airport.

This latest incident has once again increased security concerns and disruptions in air traffic in the region following previous attacks that resulted in deaths and injuries.

Houthi Claim of Attack

Forces affiliated with the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen claimed responsibility for the ballistic missile attack targeting King Khalid International Airport.

Following the attacks, crude oil prices rose in international markets, and hundreds of flights connected to Riyadh were canceled.

Coalition Statements and Damage

Brigadier General Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, reported that ballistic missiles launched toward Riyadh and Khamis Mushait were destroyed in mid-air.

However, debris from the missile intercepted during the operation caused material damage to a kindergarten and a medical center.

Airport Closure and Flight Cancellations

Flight tracking systems and eyewitnesses reported that the airport was closed again following the explosions, departing flights were halted, and passengers were evacuated.

In light of these developments, major airlines such as Air India and Lufthansa Group temporarily suspended their operations to Riyadh.
