Severe Rains and Floods Strike Northern India
Heavy rains and floodwaters in the state of Uttar Pradesh resulted in loss of life, while similar disasters were recorded in neighboring Nepal.
As a result of days of heavy rainfall and flooding in northern India's Uttar Pradesh state, at least 62 people lost their lives and numerous homes were damaged.
Death Toll in Uttar Pradesh State
According to statements made by authorities, floods occurred in various parts of the state following three days of intense rainfall.
As a result of the disaster, at least 62 people died, 46 people were injured, and over a thousand homes sustained damage.
Security Measures Taken
Schools were closed in parts of the state, including the capital Lucknow, and rescue teams evacuated citizens to safe areas.
Authorities warned the public to avoid traveling in flooded areas and to stay away from fast-flowing rivers and drainage lines.
Weather Expectations
Atul Kumar Singh, a scientist from the Lucknow Regional Meteorological Center, stated that rainfall is expected to ease as the weather system over the Bay of Bengal weakens.
It was reported that light rainfall may continue intermittently throughout Tuesday in the eastern and western parts of the state.
Situation in Neighboring Regions
Heavy rains were not limited to Uttar Pradesh alone, as they also affected Odisha state, where more than 75,000 people were evacuated to safe areas.
In neighboring Nepal, 21 people lost their lives between Thursday and Sunday due to weather-related incidents.
