Unrelenting extreme rainfall in Bangkok turned city neighborhoods into stagnant pools of water, with nearly 300 millimeters of rain recorded in a short period.
Casualties and Shelters
According to government data, approximately 40 people lost their lives due to the floods. Meanwhile, thousands of people stayed in more than 230 shelters across the city.
Infrastructure and Transportation Issues
Due to the floods, Suvarnabhumi Airport experienced staff shortages, flights were canceled, and thousands of pieces of luggage piled up. Schools were closed across the city.
Statements from Authorities
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that the metropolitan area was at risk due to water flowing from the north and announced the establishment of a crisis center to monitor the situation.
