Search and rescue operations have concluded following a massive explosion and collapse at a historic building in the Greek capital, Athens.
Six people, including four American tourists, lost their lives as a result of an explosion and sudden collapse at a two-story apartment building in Athens' historic Plaka district. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the disaster.

The two-story apartment building in the historic Plaka district, located in the heart of Athens, collapsed within seconds following a morning explosion. The blast shattered windows of surrounding buildings and sent debris scattering over a wide area, injuring at least three people.
Comprehensive Search and Rescue Operations
Emergency teams dispatched to the scene used thermal cameras, geophones detecting seismic sound frequencies, specially trained dogs, and heavy machinery in the rescue operations. Throughout the search activities under the rubble, teams combed through piles of debris overnight.
Victims' Identities and Demographics
The bodies of three women and three men recovered from under the rubble by fire and rescue units were taken to the morgue for autopsies. Among the dead are a 77-year-old Briton and his Greek wife living on the upper floor of the building, as well as four American tourists staying in a short-term rental apartment.
Cause of Explosion Under Investigation
Following the tragedy that shook the city, authorities focused on finding what caused the building to collapse so quickly. While gas leak remains a suspected possibility, experts stated they have numerous plausible theories and that the investigation is ongoing.
