Survey reveals widespread global AI optimism

A recent study published by Gallup and Microsoft reveals that individuals worldwide demonstrate a largely optimistic approach toward artificial intelligence. However, the majority of respondents state that they have not yet used the new technology.

Overview of the Survey

The AI survey conducted in collaboration with Gallup and Microsoft was published on September 23. The findings revealed that positive sentiments toward AI outweighed negative ones in 34 of the first 37 countries examined.

Exceptional Countries and Sentiments

Among the countries included in the study, positive sentiment was not predominant only across the United States, Egypt, and Palestine. While 72 percent of adults aware of AI stated that they held at least one positive feeling, curiosity ranked first at 64 percent. Worry was recorded as the most common negative emotion at a rate of 32 percent.

Optimism Rates by Country

The proportion of those who believe that AI will bring more benefit than harm to their countries is a majority in 29 countries. While China displayed a remarkably high optimism rate of 93 percent, the United States ranked low on the list.

The Balance Between Usage and Trust

The study emphasizes that optimism does not always directly translate into usage. For example, in Nigeria, while 68 percent of the population expects the technology to help the country, the usage rate remains at only 20 percent. On the other hand, the median trust that AI will provide accurate information also remains generally low.
