Tensions Rise in the Middle East: Clashes Between Iran and the US Spread to the Gulf

Following overnight US airstrikes targeting Iran, the Tehran administration launched drone attacks on Wednesday against allied targets in Kuwait and Bahrain. The military activity in the region led to civilian casualties and accelerated diplomatic contacts.

Iranian officials stated that one of the US airstrikes carried out against the country during the night hit a wedding in the Kuhestak region. As a result of this attack, at least four people lost their lives and numerous others were injured.

The US Central Command emphasized in a statement that the targets in the operations were strictly military in nature and that civilians were never targeted.

Defense and Attack Operations in Gulf Countries

It was announced that Bahraini air defense systems intercepted multiple Iranian airstrikes targeting the country early Wednesday. Iranian state media announced that US bases in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates were targeted with drones.

Naval Attack in the Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia-based shipping company Bahri reported that an attack took place late Monday against a vessel named SIDR passing through the Strait of Hormuz. As a result of this incident, two Filipino crew members serving on the ship lost their lives.

Economic Pressures and Decline in the Currency

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the administration is exerting pressure on other states not to trade with Iran. Meanwhile, in Tehran's free market, the Iranian rial fell to a record low of 2.20 million against the US dollar.

Diplomatic Reactions and Talks

Top diplomats in Egypt and Qatar called for a return to the negotiating table between Iran and the US. While the Arab Interior Ministers Council condemned the attacks against Arab states, Egyptian and Chinese leaders met in Cairo to discuss regional stability.
