World and Olympic-level successful sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden shared the details and future goals of her non-governmental organization, The Village Initiative, alongside her athletic career.

Founding Story and Origin of the Idea

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden stated that the conceptual phase of her non-profit organization, The Village Initiative Inc., emerged on the last day of her honeymoon in Saint Lucia. Initially conceived for her hometown of Georgetown County, this initiative reached a broader scope with the encouragement of her husband.

Two-Part Launch Event

A two-part event has been planned for the official launch of the organization. Within this scope, a community event will first be held at the athlete's hometown high school, followed by a fundraising gala in the city of Orlando.

Gala and Celebrity Attendees

The fundraising gala to be held in Orlando will take place with the participation of notable figures. The evening will feature a discussion panel with boxer Omari Jones, NFL player Marquise Goodman, and Olympic sprinter TeeTee Terry.

Social Responsibility Programs

Programs implemented under the organization include The Village Gives, which focuses on backpack and holiday drives, and The Village Champions, which provides sports equipment and gear support to disadvantaged schools.

Future Goals and Scholarships

Jefferson-Wooden plans to provide scholarships to students in need of assistance to complete their education. The ultimate goal of the organization is to create a major community impact comparable to LeBron James's I Promise School.
