Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared Turkey's aviation development in recent years and the records broken at the 8th World Airport Experience Summit held in Istanbul.
Infrastructure Investments in Aviation
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that Turkey has reached an important global position with the projects implemented in the last twenty-four years.
It was shared that the number of active airports has been increased to fifty-eight and this number will rise to sixty with ongoing projects.
Flight Destinations and Agreements
It was announced that Turkey has reached a total of 356 international flight destinations across 133 countries.
It was stated that the number of countries with air transport agreements increased from eighty-one to 175.
Passenger Numbers and Global Ranking
It was announced that the total number of domestic and international passengers reached 247 million as of 2025.
With these figures, Turkey ranked third in passenger traffic in Europe and seventh in the world.
Istanbul Airport Records
Istanbul Airport holds the position of Europe's busiest airport with a daily average of 1,665 flights.
All-time passenger and flight records were refreshed with flights carried out on August 16 and August 30, 2026.
Fourth Main Runway Works
It was conveyed that the works regarding the fourth main runway of Istanbul Airport have reached the final stage.
Following the completion of technical tests, the new runway is targeted to enter service in the coming days.
