Trump Voters Are Not Pumped About Voting in the Midterms, Reuters/Ipsos Poll Finds

A new public opinion poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos revealed that voters who supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election are significantly more eager to cast their ballots in the November midterms compared to Donald Trump supporters, which is evaluated as a potential warning sign for Republicans.

Marked Difference in Voter Enthusiasm

While 48% of Harris supporters stated that they feel great excitement about voting in the November midterms, that figure remained at 30% among Trump supporters. This picture shows that there is an enthusiasm gap in favor of Democrats and potential fractures in the coalition that secured Trump's 2024 victory.

Among voters who participated in the poll and stated they felt excitement, 62% said they were motivated by a desire to oppose Trump, while only 36% expressed excitement about supporting the president.

Shift in Male Voter Tendencies

The research revealed that male voters are more eager to vote compared to women and also signaled a trend toward Democrats. Male voters preferred Democrats ahead of Republicans in the congressional race.

This shift in the male voter demographic, which has consistently supported Republicans in previous periods, highlights the largest Democratic advantage in Trump's second term.

Cost of Living and Economic Concerns

It was determined that the primary agenda item for American voters when deciding their votes is the cost of living. The high cost of living triggered by the war with Iran and rising fuel prices remains at the center of voter concerns.

Rising costs and economic anxieties have caused Trump's approval ratings to remain at record lows and have led to a loss of support across every major demographic group.

Republican Strategy and Older Voters

Republican strategist Charlie Gerow stated that the poll findings increase the importance of intra-party turnout efforts. Gerow expects that concerns over left-leaning Democrats gaining power will motivate Republican voters and help close this gap.

Conversely, among older voters aged 50 and above—the critical mass of the midterm elections—Republicans still maintain a slight edge, though this advantage has also declined compared to previous months.
