US President Donald Trump evaluated the deal proposal offered by Iran in detail during his remarks to reporters at the White House.
Trump stated that the Tehran administration wanted to make such a deal because they are in a very poor economic situation.
Iran's Proposal and Conditions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a post on Telegram that he accepted Trump's words but would wait for an official response from mediators.
Araghchi had previously announced that normal maritime passage could be ensured within seven days if the necessary conditions were met under a memorandum of understanding signed in June.
Status of the Strait of Hormuz
Since the war that broke out in February, the critical waterway, through which approximately one-fifth of global oil and gas shipments pass, has remained closed.
US President Trump argued that his country already has full control over the strait, emphasizing that the proposal made was insufficient and unacceptable.
