US Strikes Iranian Launcher on Larak Island
Two Iranian launchers preparing naval mines and rockets in the Strait of Hormuz were hit on Larak Island.
US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island as they prepared to launch rockets alongside naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced that casualties were sustained in the attack.
Operation on Larak Island
US forces carried out an operation on Sunday targeting two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. A US official confirmed that this was the first known American strike since the end of July.
Official sources stated that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets alongside naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
Strong Reaction from Iran
According to Iranian state media reports, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards announced that numerous soldiers and citizens lost their lives in the attack. It was also declared that Tehran would deliver a harsh response.
Speaking to the semi-official Fars news agency, a spokesperson stated that the US would pay the price for this attack on both economic and military fronts.
President Trump's Warnings
US President Donald Trump had drawn attention to the situation of international waters in the Strait of Hormuz in statements made last week. President Trump had announced that all mines in the region had been destroyed.
Additionally, a clear warning had been issued to the Iranian government that any ship or boat laying new mines would be decisively destroyed.
Course of the Regional War
The last known US strikes against Iran were at the end of July, and Washington's threats of sanctions against countries supporting Iran had created a deadlock. The war has now left its sixth month behind.
In response to the attacks launched by the US and Israel on February 28, Iran had also responded with its own moves against Israel and Gulf countries hosting US bases.
Humanitarian and Economic Impact
The ongoing conflicts and mutual operations have led to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions. A total of 18 US service members have lost their lives in the conflicts.
This process has caused a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a transit point for a significant portion of the world's oil shipments, and triggered global crises.
