Vietnam Rises to 43rd Place in the 2026 Global Innovation Index
According to the 2026 GII report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization, Vietnam has achieved significant success with a major leap over the past decade.
According to the 2026 Global Innovation Index published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Vietnam rose to 43rd place among 139 countries, continuing its steady rise over the past decade.
Rise in the Global Innovation Index
Vietnam's position was shared in the 2026 Global Innovation Index report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the evening of September 29.
According to the disclosed data, the country ranked 43rd among 139 countries and economies, climbing one spot higher compared to last year.
Ten-Year Development Process
The published GII 2026 report clearly demonstrates Vietnam's economic and technological development over the past decade.
Having previously ranked 59th in 2016, the country reached 43rd place in 2026 through the performance it displayed over the intervening period.
Regional and Income Group Position
Along with this international success achieved, Vietnam ranks third in the Southeast Asian region.
Additionally, the country holds a remarkable position by ranking second in the lower-middle-income economies category globally.
Factors Behind the Success
Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan shared the underlying reasons for this success with the public.
Minister Quan emphasized that the increase in resources allocated to science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation was effective in achieving this result.
Future Targets and Areas Open for Improvement
The prepared report stated that there is still a need for improvement in areas such as the quality of regulatory frameworks, educational expenditures, and venture capital.
The Vietnamese administration aims to enter the world's top 40 countries by 2030 through the steps to be taken in the upcoming period.
