A talk titled Take Forgetfulness Seriously was held in the conference hall of Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital on the occasion of September 21 World Alzheimer's Day.

At the event, experts came together to raise social awareness about the disease, define risk factors, and emphasize the importance of early diagnosis.

Alzheimer's and Memory Problems

Neurology Specialist Dr. Tuğba Okluoğlu stated that with the aging of the world population, the incidence of Alzheimer's is increasing and the first symptoms may start with memory problems.

Stating that not every forgetfulness is Alzheimer's, Okluoğlu underlined that detailed examinations must be conducted in situations affecting daily life.

Risk Factors and Precautions

It was stated that by controlling risk factors such as cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes, the risk of Alzheimer's can be reduced by 40 percent.

Experts noted that socialization, an active lifestyle, and mental exercises are of great importance in protecting against the disease.

Importance of Physiotherapy and Movement

Physiotherapist Ebru Akboğa Koç noted that physical activity limitations are observed in Alzheimer's patients and this situation affects the quality of life.

It was stated that applied physiotherapy and rehabilitation approaches aim to increase muscle strength, balance, and independence in daily life.

Nutrition and Diet Recommendations

Dietitian Merve Öz conveyed to the participants that the Mediterranean-style diet and the MIND diet stand out in Alzheimer's patients.

It was emphasized that Omega-3 fatty acids and B12 vitamins are of great importance during the nutritional process.
