A comprehensive report published by the World Health Organization has reported that tobacco use threatens reproductive health in both men and women, thereby increasing the risk of infertility.

A new report covering the period between 2000 and 2026 has been published by the World Health Organization, detailing the effects of tobacco use on reproductive health.

While the press release drew attention to the decreased chances of having a baby, it stated that the risk of infertility in women who use tobacco is 40 percent higher compared to those who do not.

Secondhand Smoke and the Impact of Quitting Smoking

The report clearly emphasized that secondhand smoke can also negatively affect fertility and that this danger includes non-smokers.

Pointing out the benefits of quitting smoking, it was stated that the risk of infertility in women who used to smoke is 25 percent lower than in those who still smoke.

Men's Health and Treatment Processes

The report noted that men who consume cigarettes may encounter more problems with sexual function and stated that this habit also reduces the success rate in infertility treatment.

Additionally, it was stated that further scientific research is needed regarding the effects of other products such as electronic cigarettes, hookahs, and smokeless tobacco.
