Zelensky Proposes Temporary Ceasefire and No Airstrikes with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on Russia for a temporary ceasefire and a halt to airstrikes in connection with the upcoming weekend visits to Moscow and Kiev by US special envoys.

Visits by US Envoys

US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff will visit Moscow on Saturday and Kiev on Sunday, respectively, to discuss a potential peace agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

Terms of the Temporary Ceasefire

In a statement via Telegram, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the normal functioning of Russian airspace would be maintained to allow the US envoys to arrive safely.

Emphasizing that the Ukrainian side would not launch airstrikes, Zelenskyy stated that Russia should also respond in kind by refraining from airstrikes for the duration required to conduct negotiations.

Recent Increase in Attacks

In recent days, Russia has increased daytime airstrikes targeting Kiev and other Ukrainian cities, hitting the intelligence service headquarters in Kiev on Friday.

Prior to Friday's attack, a nighttime strike on the Odesa region killed one person and injured at least five others, including a child, while attacks in Dnipro claimed the lives of two police officers.
