Anthropic reveals $80 billion loss, huge spending spree ahead of IPO

AI model developer Anthropic has officially filed for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol 'ANT'. According to the filing, the company generated $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, but reported a net loss of $80.7 billion due to period accounting adjustments and debt.

According to documents submitted by Anthropic to the SEC, $72.4 billion of the massive net loss in the first six months of 2026 stemmed from a one-time accounting item related to convertible debt. While the company recorded an operating loss of $693 million over the same period, it had reported a net loss of $42 billion for the entirety of 2025. Additionally, it was noted that the startup, which has entered into long-term cloud infrastructure spending commitments with tech giants such as Amazon, SpaceX, Google, and Microsoft, had more than 11,900 customers spending over $100,000 as of September.
