AI warning from Australia: Cyber threats have reached an unprecedented level
The Australian Signals Directorate has announced that artificial intelligence is creating unprecedented speed and complexity in cyberattacks. It was stated that state-sponsored actors and criminal organizations are targeting critical infrastructure, with an 80 percent increase in cybersecurity alerts recorded compared to last year.
Australia's cybersecurity agency has warned that artificial intelligence technologies pose an 'unprecedented' threat due to their use by foreign states and criminal organizations in attacks on computer networks and critical infrastructure.
In the annual cyber threat report published by the Australian Signals Directorate, it was emphasized that artificial intelligence has become the primary force defining the cybersecurity landscape over the past year. According to the report, malicious actors are using AI models to identify system vulnerabilities more quickly and carry out their attacks on a larger scale.
The agency issued more than 4,400 alerts regarding potential malicious activity over the past year. This figure represents an 80 percent increase compared to the previous year. It was noted that the attacks target not only government networks but also critical infrastructure, private businesses, and individuals.
Defense Minister Richard Marles stated that the AI revolution cannot be ignored and called on citizens and institutions to update their systems and increase their security measures. The report includes findings that hacker groups linked to China, Russia, and North Korea are targeting Australia and its allies.
