Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Strategies
Hackers targeting Microsoft 365 users with AI agents has brought the role of artificial intelligence in financial advisers' cybersecurity strategies back to the agenda.
Hackers targeting more than 2,250 organizations subscribed to Microsoft 365 via the ConnectWise platform using AI agents has led financial firms to review their cybersecurity and AI strategies. Industry professionals emphasize that AI must be integrated into security policies both as a threat vector and an efficiency tool.
Matthew Vandre of Francis LLC stated that artificial intelligence is a powerful tool but can pose risks if not used correctly. Vandre expressed that the most effective defense stems from an institutional culture that views data protection as a professional responsibility. Tom Quinn of T. Rowe Price noted that depriving oneself of technology will not increase security, and that firms must adapt alongside change.
While the National Security Agency (NSA) and other agencies publish guidelines with AI controls against cyberattacks, the importance of routine training against phishing, smishing, and vishing fraud conducted via email, text message, and phone in the financial sector is also emphasized.
