The United States Marine Corps (USMC) has announced the opening of candidate nominations for the 2027-1 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Fellowship program, conducted in partnership with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). Over the course of the five-month program, participants will work on mission-focused artificial intelligence projects.

Run by the Deputy Commandant for Information (DC I) and the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), the program aims to have interdisciplinary teams develop new algorithms and technologies. Candidates applying are required to submit an unclassified, actionable AI use case approved by their command. Candidates are also required to have the appropriate infrastructure for remote work during the program.

Throughout the program, participants will operate remotely under the operational control of the NPS while remaining administratively attached to their respective commands. During the five-month period, three unit-funded Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) trips to the NPS campus in Monterey are planned. Participants who successfully complete the program are required to submit a publishable research paper based on their capstone projects and fulfill a 15-month active service obligation.
