Artificial Intelligence Becomes a Partner in Mental Labor: Transformation in the Business World
While generative artificial intelligence technologies impact mental labor, experts emphasize that professions will transform in content rather than disappearing entirely.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Yüksel from Sivas Cumhuriyet University stated that artificial intelligence is partnering in mental labor and that one in every four jobs worldwide will be affected by generative artificial intelligence.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Yüksel, a Social Policy Expert and faculty member in the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at Sivas Cumhuriyet University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, stated that artificial intelligence is targeting white-collar workers. Recalling that the steam engine replaced physical labor during the Industrial Revolution, Yüksel stated that for the first time, artificial intelligence is partnering in mental labor, reasoning, writing, and analysis processes. Based on research by the International Labour Organization, it was conveyed that one in every four jobs globally is in a position to be affected by generative artificial intelligence.
Stating that a large portion of jobs will not completely disappear, but rather their contents will transform, Yüksel noted that the fundamental issue is not which profession will end, but which tasks within a profession will be delegated to artificial intelligence. He expressed that professions such as teaching, medicine, and law will continue to exist, but professionals who effectively use artificial intelligence tools will replace those who do not. On the other hand, according to World Economic Forum data, it is projected that 170 million new job fields will open up and 92 million jobs will disappear by the year 2030.
