Artificial Intelligence Memory Chip Demand and Developments in Micron Technology Shares
The global memory chip shortage and increasing artificial intelligence data center investments have become the focus of markets ahead of the financial reports of Micron Technology, Alphabet, and Amazon.
While the tech companies' race to build artificial intelligence data centers rapidly increases memory chip demand, global supply shortages and cost increases in the sector are affecting the market position of leading manufacturer Micron Technology. In the quarterly earnings reports that Alphabet and Amazon are preparing to release, the memory shortage and capital expenditures are expected to be the main agenda items.
Shares of Micron Technology, a critical memory chip manufacturer for artificial intelligence infrastructures, have increased by 225 percent since the beginning of the year, reaching the position of the third highest performing stock in the Nasdaq-100 index. However, the shares have experienced significant volatility in recent months and are trading approximately 24 percent below their all-time high.
In the quarterly earnings reports to be released by Alphabet and Amazon, the global memory shortage is expected to be addressed comprehensively along with capital expenditures. Amazon previously announced that it increased its 2026 capital expenditures budget to $220 billion due to rising memory costs, while Alphabet also raised its estimate to a range of $195 billion to $205 billion due to infrastructure investments and capacity supply constraints. Elon Musk also stated that RAM supply constitutes a bottleneck in artificial intelligence infrastructure efforts.
