As artificial intelligence technologies rapidly transform industries and the workforce, Goldman Sachs' prediction that 300 million jobs will be affected by 2030 has ignited debates in Congress over federal oversight and regulation.

While it is noted that nearly all industries are affected by artificial intelligence, it is stated that the technology is transforming or eliminating jobs. Barry Jones, Vice President of artificial intelligence governance company X2X, pointed out that human involvement is still necessary and argued that current oversight is inadequate.

Different views are expressed in Congress regarding the role of the federal government. Representative Buddy Carter argued that the federal government staying out of the process might be better for encouraging innovation, while Senator Elizabeth Warren stated that the U.S. must address the real risks posed by powerful artificial intelligence systems and that decisions should be made by the people's representatives.
