Artificial Intelligence Texts Analyzed on Candidate Websites
An investigation revealed that a significant portion of congressional candidates' websites contain texts written with artificial intelligence tools.
An analysis conducted by The New York Times, examining 695 congressional candidate websites, showed that 291 sites used artificial intelligence tools for content such as biographies and policy texts.
The New York Times newspaper examined texts downloaded from the websites of 695 candidates participating in the House of Representatives and Senate races using Pangram and GPTZero artificial intelligence detectors. As a result of the evaluation, it was determined with high probability that 291 candidate sites used artificial intelligence tools in text writing. While it was determined that pages on 150 of these sites were entirely generated by artificial intelligence, it was observed that human and artificial intelligence writing were used together on the remaining sites.
The campaign site of Eric Pratt, a Republican congressional candidate from Minnesota, featured an unusual passage containing an internal note about avoiding President Donald Trump. The campaign team attributed this situation to the use of artificial intelligence tools for text editing. Expert Lisa Argyle stated that the use of artificial intelligence can improve the quality of information, while drawing attention to the fact that some risks may arise if candidates give prompts to the tools without reflecting their own views.
