Agreement for the Second Nuclear Power Plant

A new cooperation agreement has been signed between the Polish Ministry of Energy, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, and Polska Grupa Energetyczna. This document defines the division of responsibilities and cooperation principles during the preparation phase of the country's planned second nuclear power plant.

Division of Responsibilities and Role

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, wholly owned by the Polish State Treasury, will act as the investor and coordinator of the second nuclear power plant project. State-controlled Polska Grupa Energetyczna will conduct site analyses and pre-feasibility studies in cooperation with potential technology providers.

Updated Nuclear Program

This newly signed agreement implements the core assumptions of the updated Polish nuclear program adopted by the Council of Ministers on September 29. The cooperation aims at the effective use of both companies' resources and experience.

First Nuclear Power Plant Project

As part of plans to reduce coal dependency, the installation of six large pressurized water reactors is targeted by 2040. The Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania was chosen for the first nuclear power plant, and construction is projected to begin in 2028.
