Trump Says He Approves of Brazil's Flavio Bolsonaro Coming to US

US President Donald Trump announced that he approved the arrival in the United States of Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who came to the US after losing the presidential election in Brazil.

US President Donald Trump stated in remarks to reporters at Joint Base Andrews upon returning from a campaign trip in Texas that he would approve the entry into the US of Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who left his country following the elections in Brazil. A senior State Department official had reported that Bolsonaro and his family would be granted entry visas. Trump stated he had heard that Bolsonaro was in Argentina.

Flavio Bolsonaro had left his country without conceding the election defeat against left-wing incumbent leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, refusing to comply with a Brazilian Supreme Court ruling ordering the confiscation of his passport. Arguing that both sides were good people, Trump criticized the election process and drew attention to developments in the markets.

Trump noted that he knew Lula, knew Flavio a little, and knew his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, very well. Claiming that former President Jair Bolsonaro had faced judicial persecution in Brazil, Trump expressed his belief that the father was treated very badly, though he stated he was not personally involved in the situation.

On the other hand, Trump stated that he hoped to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy soon, and that he thought significant progress had been made toward resolving the war in Ukraine. Putin had reported that Russia was ready to resume US-mediated talks with Ukraine the following month.

Additionally, sharing that he had a discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping on nuclear disarmament, Trump noted that he would visit Manila in November to attend the ASEAN regional bloc summit. Regarding Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's party losing seats in the elections, Trump stated he heard Netanyahu was quite successful, and that the situation was close, coming down to neck-and-neck or a victory.
